More than one year later...

This is my second attempt back...I did try to search for this old blog of mine several weeks ago without any luck. It was when I decided to start a new blog again (yes, after being inspired again by chefandsommelier.blogspot) then I chanced upon my old blog! Talking about digital dinosaur!

I remembered the reason why I started this blog 4 years ago...I was doing online marketing and starting to get into social media marketing and wanted to understand more about the online channels such as blogs and so on. 4 years on and I am still not digitally savvy, despite having meddled in social media and online marketing for the past several years : ). Till today, I still cannot comprehend why people would spend time tweeting and the culture of tweets followership - almost like a new religion.

Well, now that I have two blogs (the other being tiggermummy.blogspot which is the new one which I would be updating more regularly), I hope to find more opportunity writing. For now, this is a total feat for me tonight, after playing around trying to decide on the blog template for almost 2 hours and almost giving up in the middle of it.

I am back

I can't believe its been almost two and a half years ago since I started this blog! And a pathethic 3 miserable entries. I have almost completely forgotten about this until a friend started his blog a few weeks ago = a site dedicated to his passion on food and wine.

2 and a half years and 5 kgs heavier after, I must say growing older doesnt mean growing wiser. I read my 3rd entry about my comments about life and work and nothing seems to have changed. I supposed one thing's for sure, in the corporate life you are just a seed in a chess game - you need to know your role and place and move accordingly. If you are a pawn, you just need to be ready to be used in order for another higher and more powerful seed to acheive its objectives in this political game.

Working

How many of you out there stop and think about your life? Everyday we are so busy and for those full time professionals out there living the corporate life - the world does not seem to stop for even a minute or a second, even when you face any life crisis like when a family member is diagnosed with an incurable disease or when you lost someone you love - the world mercilessly goes on and does not spare any pity or thoughts for you. Demands from your bosses your peers continue to come in, you continue to face office politics and no, nothing changes and the world continues in its craziness and insanity.

Sometimes I question the meaning of our short life our short existence on this earth. I mean, I know God gives us life for a good reason and I thank God for that. What I question is our struggle in life, why we get so bothered sometimes over office polictics or some interpersonal issues at home and at work, why we continue to live life like so carelessly, to be so mindful about trivial issues, to get angry about things that have so little impact in the largeness of the true meaning of life. What happens to the truly important things and people in our life? They become neglected and forgotten as we continue to get overwhelmed by the unimportant things in our lives.

I question myself these things because this is exactly what I am doing now, I am living everyday like a crazy mad and very tired women. I continue to struggle with a heavy workload, get angry with small little things, living in guilt because I don't spend time with God and with my children and feeling so physically and emotionally tired all the time. What will it take to recharge me. I know the answer is simple I need to cast my cares upon Jesus and go to Him to seek peace and comfort. Why why does stubborn me continue to cast my cares on the world??

Travelling around Asia Pacific

I am fortunate to be located within the Asia Pacific region. Asia always exude a mystic for people from the west - its so diversed across the various regions.

In the northern Asia region, you have the vast land of China, the ever so polictically interesting Taiwan and the exciting city of Hong Kong (where there is yummy yummy dim sum and Hong Kong Disneyland!). Taiwanese people are extremely friendly and hospitable - at least from my experience when I was there. Hong Kong? Never go there without experiencing eating at local cafe (cha chan tang) - my favourite local food includes the cheong fan (made of steamed rice flour with different fillings) and chinese porridge.

Southeast Asia is very ethnic. I am a Singaporean myself - a land known to be filled with food loving beings (with an equally deep love for shopping) and a cultural melting pot. You get a lot of beautiful resorts in Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. I love Thai food and Indonesia food. If you ever come to Singapore and want to try Thai and Indonesia food - go to Bali Thai - they serve great Thai and Indonesian food!

As for the Indo-China region, I have only been to Cambodia so far to visit the world famous Angkor Wat - an amazing sight which leaves you speechless and awed. How can such an astounding place be left forgotten and buried in forest for hundreds of years - its simply mind boggling! And I have one of the most memorable food moments in Cambodia - where you can get a mix of Cambodia, Thai and Vietnamese food (and French too as it used to be a French colony).

I am planning my first trip to Vietnam soon and can't wait to go ...rice paper roll and Vietnamese beef noodle...I'm coming!

Oh, if you are looking for great travel deals, here's one not to be missed!

Blog's Name Derivation

Finally I gathered the courage (and found the time at 2:30 am on a Saturday morning) to explore the mystery (to me at least) of blogging and to de-mystifiy it by creating my own blog. I spent a good 30 minutes thinking of a suitable name and got almost frustrated and exasperated that all the wonderful and cool names I thought of has already been taken up!

I thought about what I probably would be writing and sharing on my blog - about life, travel, shopping, food, motherhood, womanhood, corporate life, etc etc and finally thought of this blog's name : sanity - vanity!

Afterall, it takes alot of sanity to keep sane and live in this crazy world of ours and maintaining our sanity is so essential to ensure we don't get too caught up with the negativism and stress of life. Also life is vain - full of emptiness even if we surround ourselves with materialism (yet of which we can't resist nor completely do without!) and yet at the same time we should not live our life in vain!
